Mystic Wharf filling begins.

1859

The Mystic River Corporation begins filling a huge wharf on the north shore of Charlestown. The project is taken over in the 1880s, first by the Boston & Lowell Railroad, and then completed by the Boston & Maine Railroad in 1891. It constructs  the wharf where imported cars are unloaded today.
